Current News

Meeting minutes - Feb 6, 2026

NFAA is going to have a new format for the Sectional Outdoor.  It is a 12 target round half round with 3 arrows per target.  It is no walk-ups and no fans.  For the Field they are dropping the 80W and the 45W.  The 15 yarder will be shot on the bunny face (20cm).  You can also think of it as an International with the Bunny and 15 yarder added to it.  We are offering both the 14, 14, 14 and the new 12, 12, 12 at the State Field as separate shoots which can be shot either day (or you can shoot the same one twice).  Both count towards shooter of the year.  Targets 1-14 are the 14 rounds and targets 15-28 will be the 12.target rounds..

NFAA is going to offer a Sectional Target.  Sections have a choice of a Classic 600 or a 900.  The SE Section is going with the 900.  We are going to split the 900 between Gold Coast and Gator.

Tim Austin 1938 - 2022
Tim Austin
It is with sadness that I have to let you know that Tim Austin lost his battle with cancer today.  Tim died peacefully at 1:30pm in the ICU at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville.  As you know he had been fighting Stage IV cancer for two years and had 66 doses of chemo.  There will be a small graveside gathering next week.  I will not be there.  I am in Mirimar with Jake Pettitt running the National Senior Games which Tim would have wanted.  He will be missed.  Oliver.

Safety Reminder – Drawing Above Horizontal

This notice needs to be shared and taken seriously across all clubs and ranges.
It is specifically against NFAA and NAA rules to draw a bow above horizontal.

The practice of drawing the bow high into the air is unsafe and must be stopped immediately. Many archers develop this habit due to pulling heavy poundage or simple inattention, but it poses a serious risk to both the archer and others nearby.

To draw safely, push the bow forward with your bow arm, or even slightly downward, as you begin your draw. This method maintains control and keeps your arrows on a safe trajectory at all times.

Remember, one arrow loosed high into the air—whether by accident or poor form—could cause injury or property damage blocks away, and set our sport back for years. Let’s all do our part to ensure that archery remains safe, responsible, and respected in our communities.

NFAA Hunting Photo Request

The NFAA is currently looking for hunting photos to feature in Archery Magazine!

If you have pictures you’d like to share, please send them to Oliver along with the following information:

  • Who is in the picture

  • Where it was taken (the state where the animal was harvested — not your hunting location address)

  • What kind of animal it is, if not immediately obvious

These photos may be featured on a new Hunting Picture Page on our site, and selected images may also appear in the FAA Release or in Archery Magazine.

Thank you for helping showcase the hunting side of our sport!
– Oliver
